Prepare For Your Reroofing

Most home owners do not know what to expect once your Roofing Contractor starts your home, so make sure to ask them what to expect.

4) Delivery of your roof:

  • Distributors will be delivering your material with very large trucks that weigh in excess of 65,000 lbs. and they will need access.
  • When delivering, the drivers will be looking for the best access available. Sometimes they may have to back onto your lawn, so make sure you mark any underground lines, such as sprinklers or septic tanks.
  • Power or Telephone lines: You might be asked to turn this service off  just prior to the delivery because they load the material with conveyors and they cannot be operated within 50 ft. of any power line.
  • Trees, shrubs and driveways may be damaged due to weight of the delivery equipment or operation of the conveyor, so be prepared. It is up to the homeowner to make sure all driveways can support this equipment. Most driveways are over 20 years old and over time voids will be created causing unavoidable damage, so be prepared.
  • Loading of your material. It is a good idea to go within your home and secure any items from falling. There will be a lot of foot traffic causing unavoidable vibrations.

5) Applying of your roof:

  • Your Roofing Contractor may bring to your attention any added repairs not seen prior to starting your home. This is happens a lot, since they cannot see the damage until they tear off your roof. When this happens always have them present you with a work order, so you will not be caught off guard.

6) Clean Up of your home:

  • Make sure you and your contractor walk around your home to make sure everything is clean. Don’t be afraid to ask them to use a magnet sweeper to pick up any loose nails or staples.

7) Prior to payment:

  •  Make sure you have all of your warranty forms filled out.
  • That you are satisfied with your new roof.

Here are some ideas of what to expect:

DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE AROUND YOUR HOME FOR SAFETY REASONS: MATERIAL CAN FALL WITHOUT WARNING!

1) Expect noise from start to finish!

2) Most Roofing Contractors will be tearing off your old roof, so expect to see a dump truck, trailer or a dumpster to haul it away.

3) Roofing Contractors will be spending a lot of time preparing for your roofs application.
